MassDOT To Host Salem Meeting On North River Culvert Replacement Project

SALEM, MA — Salem residents will have a chance to review and comment on a proposed North River infrastructure project during a virtual Design Public Informational Meeting hosted by the state Department of Transportation.

The existing culvert carries Green Trail, North Street, also known as Route 114, and a pedestrian path over the North River.

The proposed project would replace that culvert with a bridge or bridges. MassDOT said the work is intended to improve the structural integrity and hydraulic capacity of the culvert while maintaining multimodal connections.

The purpose of the hearing is to give the public an opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project.

"All views and comments made at the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible," MassDOT said.

MassDOT said a secure right-of-way is necessary for the project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required.

The city of Salem is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands, and MassDOT said its policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented at the hearing.
