Longtime Sharon Police Officer To Retire After 40 Years

SHARON, MA — A longtime Sharon police officer will work his final shift this week.

Officer Allan Greenfield will retire on Friday after 40 years with the Sharon Police Department. He joined the agency in September 1986 and later served more than two decades as president of the Sharon Police Association Local 166 MASCOP, the department said.

Greenfield became the first officer to receive the department’s Medal of Valor after pulling three people from a burning vehicle in 1988. He also received a Trooper George L. Hanna Medal of Valor citation from then-Gov. Michael Dukakis and a Medal of Valor from the Sharon American Legion for the rescue.

His other honors include lifesaving awards in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. The Sharon American Legion presented him with a second Medal of Valor in 1999.

In 1997, Greenfield received the Massachusetts Coalition of Police Presidents Award for disarming a suicidal man. He later received a Chief’s Award in 2023 and a commendation for excellence in Crisis Intervention Training in 2024 from Norfolk County CIT-TTAC and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health.

Greenfield also served as the department’s crime prevention officer from 1995 to 1997. During his career, he received several letters of recognition and multiple perfect attendance awards.

“Thank you, Officer Allan Greenfield, from all members of the Sharon Police Department for your unwavering commitment and 40 years of dedicated service to the Town of Sharon and the Sharon Police Department,” the department said in a Thursday announcement. “Congratulations on your retirement, well deserved!”
