Somerville Public Library Announces Summer Reading Program Events
The first week of programming begins on Monday, June 22.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville Public Library has announced its 2026 Children's Summer Reading Program, with reading challenges and events scheduled at the Central, East, and West branch libraries from Monday, June 22 through Saturday, Aug. 15.
The program is intended to encourage children to read while not in school. Participants can register at any library and receive a Summer Reading Bingo card and reading log to track their progress. Weekly check-ins earn stickers, keychain tags, and entries into grand prize drawings. Additional raffle entries are available for participants who complete Bingo and Blackout challenges.
The first week of programming begins on Monday, June 22 with a Pajama Storytime at the Central Library, a Singalong with Matt Heaton at the West Branch, a Museum of Science presentation on Mars Landers and a seed-planting workshop presented with the Somerville Growing Center.

Programs scheduled throughout June and July include story times, Lego Club, Coding Clubhouse, family movie nights, arts and crafts activities, yoga sessions, scavenger hunts and gaming events at library branches across the city.
The library has also scheduled several live animal and science programs during the summer. Events include Helping Endangered Species presentations, Museum of Science programs, Playful Engineers workshops and Animal World Experience programs.

Additional activities planned throughout the summer include Robot Storytime, Magic: The Gathering, face painting and bilingual story times offered in Spanish and Portuguese.
The final week of the program begins on Monday, Aug. 10, with end-of-summer celebrations at the three locations. The week will also include an Animal World Experience presentation and the final prize drawings for participants.
Sign-up becomes available on Sunday, June 14.
