Winner Revealed In 2026 27th Middlesex District State Rep. Race

SOMERVILLE, MA — Ben Ewen-Campen won the Democratic nomination for the 27th Middlesex state House District in Tuesday's Massachusetts primary, according to results from The Associated Press.

Ewen-Campen received 7,116 votes, compared to Gilligan Corsetti's 3,068 with 90 percent of votes counted.

The race between Ewen-Campen and Gilligan-Corsetti was for an open seat after State Rep. Erika Uyterhoeven launched a campaign for State Senate earlier this year.

Ewen-Campen has served on the Somerville City Council since first being elected in 2017 and has twice served as council president. A Harvard-trained evolutionary developmental biologist, Ewen-Campen has focused much of his work in local government on housing affordability, transportation, surveillance technology and climate issues. He has supported efforts including rent stabilization, expanded affordable housing policies and restrictions on the use of facial recognition technology.

Gilligan-Corsetti is a third-generation Somerville resident who earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and works as a substitute teacher in Somerville Public Schools. Her political experience includes working in former State Rep. Denise Provost's office, serving as a field organizer for Gov. Maura Healey's campaign and later working on Healey's constituent services team. She also managed former Somerville Mayor Katjana Ballantyne's 2025 reelection campaign.

Gilligan-Corsetti centered her campaign around housing affordability, healthcare, education and environmental protection. Ewen-Campen has pointed to his experience on the City Council and work on housing and other local policies as preparation for representing Somerville on Beacon Hill.

The 27th Middlesex District is made up entirely of portions of Somerville, including Ward 1 Precinct 4A, Wards 2, 3 and 5, Ward 4 Precinct 2A, and portions of Ward 6.
