On Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM, the Stoneham Historical Society and Museum will be hosting its semi-annual Home Research Day. Using street listings, tax records and old maps, Stoneham residents can come in and research the history of their homes back to the mid 1800s. Volunteers will be on hand to assist you. For those of you who have already researched your home or aren't Stoneham residents or just a history or car racing buff, you are also encouraged to come in and view our latest exhibit on the famous 1909 transcontinental race from New York to Seattle. In this race, the small upstart Shawmut Motor Company of Stoneham challenged the formidable Henry Ford and his Ford Motor Company to ultimately win the race despite challenges, dirty tricks and outright cheating.
