Electric Rates In Sudbury Beat Eversource Under Aggregation Plan

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury electricity customers enrolled in the town’s aggregation program will continue paying lower supply rates than Eversource’s residential Basic Service customers through Jan. 31.

Beginning Aug. 1, the three Sudbury Community Electricity Aggregation options range from 13.265 cents to 14.329 cents per kilowatt-hour, compared with Eversource’s residential Basic Service rate of 17.323 cents per kilowatt-hour, the town announced on Tuesday.

The Sudbury CEA Basic rate is 13.265 cents per kilowatt-hour. The Standard rate is 13.440 cents and the Plus rate is 14.329 cents.

Sudbury’s supply rates are guaranteed through December 2029. Eversource’s residential Basic Service rate changes every six months, meaning future savings under the town program cannot be guaranteed.

The town launched the aggregation program in 2017 to negotiate electricity supply rates and provide customers with renewable energy options. The program had saved the community about $11.7 million as of spring 2026 when compared with Eversource’s Basic Service costs over the same period, according to the town. That amounts to about $2,210 per average residential customer.

Eversource continues to deliver electricity, handle billing, repair utility poles and respond to outages for aggregation customers. The town selects the source and cost of the electricity supply.

Eligible customers are automatically enrolled unless they opt out. Customers using a third-party electricity supplier are not automatically enrolled but may join, although they could face early termination fees under their existing contracts.

Customers can compare options, enroll or leave the program through the Sudbury CEA website.
