The following letter was submitted to Sudbury Patch by Charlie Russo.

SUDBURY, MA — Dear Sudbury friends and neighbors, I am writing to offer my endorsement of Julie Durgin-Sicree for the Sudbury School Committee.

I’ve known Julie and her family for the past six years or so—across school classrooms, sports teams, Girl Scouts, and more—so I’ve have had the opportunity to see how Julie approaches life: with fairness, curiosity, and an independent mind. These qualities are essential for effective leadership in our schools.

Since her appointment to the School Committee in December, Julie has shown herself to be a committed and engaged member, focused on supporting all students and strengthening the district as a whole, including staff. She asks thoughtful questions, seeks to understand before deciding, and has stayed grounded in what is best for students, families, and educators. Not surprising for a business professional with a long career as a Human Resources leader.

This election season, she has responded to debate around School Committee issues with personal grace and community engagement, which is exactly what is needed on a School Committee navigating complex issues around budgeting, educational outcomes, and community expectations. In a time when public discourse can too often become polarized, this kind of leadership is both rare and essential.

Sudbury is fortunate to have strong schools and a deeply engaged community. Maintaining that strength requires leaders who are steady, fair-minded, and focused on long-term success. Julie Durgin-Sicree embodies those qualities.

I encourage residents to join me in supporting Julie on Election Day, Monday, March 30.

Sincerely,
Charlie Russo
