Sudbury Bridge To Close For Maintenance, Repairs

A bridge connecting Sudbury and Wayland will be closed for part of this week.

SUDBURY, MA — A bridge connecting Sudbury and Wayland will be closed for part of this week.

Sherman's Bridge is expected to be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday for maintenance and repairs, the Sudbury Department of Public Works announced on Tuesday. The town advised drivers to use an alternate route but did not announce a designated detour.

Sherman’s Bridge carries traffic across the Sudbury River, connecting Lincoln Road in Sudbury with Sherman’s Bridge Road in Wayland. The two towns jointly own and maintain the bridge.

Sudbury and Wayland had also been planning a larger rehabilitation of the bridge that would replace its wooden deck, install new railings and guardrails and repair portions of its timber substructure. Town officials have said the bridge remains safe for travel but needs significant structural repairs.

But Sudbury did not say whether Friday’s maintenance is connected to that proposed rehabilitation project.
