Fatal Fentanyl Overdose At Tewksbury Motel Leads To Arrest, Police Say

TEWKSBURY, MA — A man was charged in Tewksbury with trafficking fentanyl following an investigation into an overdose, police said.

Wilkin Castillo-Arias, 36, of Lawrence, was charged with trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute a class B substance.

Police began an investigation Sept. 6 into a fatal overdose that occurred at a motel on Main Street in Tewksbury.

Police identified Castillo-Arias as a suspect in the case. He was taken into custody Monday at 6:30 p.m. with assistance from the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, Burlington police, Billerica police and Andover police.

Castillo-Arias was arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court where he was held on $5,000 cash bail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also placed a detainer on Castillo-Arias.

“I am extremely proud of the work that led to this arrest,” Police Chief Ryan Columbus said in a statement. “Those who sell drugs must be held accountable. When an overdose claims a life, we will pursue every investigative lead, leave no stone unturned, and continue fighting for victims and their families.”
