Tewksbury Police Provide Pedestrian, Crosswalk Safety Update

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Police Department announced recently that it will be stepping up enforcement of pedestrian and crosswalk safety.

The police department released the following:

As we continue our traffic safety efforts throughout Tewksbury, the Tewksbury Police Department will once again be placing an increased focus on pedestrian and crosswalk safety.

Our Traffic Unit and patrol officers will be conducting enforcement and education efforts throughout town, particularly in areas with higher pedestrian activity.

Officers will be looking for drivers who fail to yield at marked crosswalks, speeding in areas with pedestrian traffic, distracted driving, and other unsafe driving behaviors that put pedestrians at risk.

But pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility. We also remind pedestrians to use crosswalks when available, stay alert when entering the roadway, avoid distractions, and make sure drivers have an opportunity to see you before crossing.

Whether you’re behind the wheel, riding a bike, or traveling on foot, slow down, stay alert, and look out for one another.
