Friendly Freya and other cats await their forever homes

Freya, a 1yo friendly, curious, playful, chatty cat who will thrive with pet-aware kids, is waiting to find her permanent home.She loves to play and loves to snuggle and loves to have naps in laps.She is just one of PAWS’ adoptable cats.

PAWS welcomes you to their Open House this Saturday, March 28, at 411 Lowell Street, Wakefield – but there’s one caveat.Freya will not be there, nor will any other kittens or cats.PAWS adoption volunteers will be on hand if you want to drop by and introduce yourself, ask any questions, or make an appointment to visit Freya or one of several other cats in its foster home – read more about specific cats below. Rest assured, PAWS has quite a number of cats available for adoption.Some are too shy to come to the office, some are in the pipeline (a little too young or awaiting their medical clearance), while others are in residence at the Kitty Café in Peabody. Several already-to-be adopted cats would love to be seen by potential adopters, but do best in a more familiar, quieter environment, so arrangements are made for them to receive visitors at their foster homes. Appointments can be made after completing an adoption application online or by visiting the PAWS office this Saturday morning, between 10am and Noon.Additionally, PAWS has some cats awaiting their forever home at the Kitty Cat Café and Adoption Lounge on Newbury St (Rte. 1), Peabody, which provides visitation details on its website: kittycatcafema.com

PAWS took in 11 cats this past week, and those should be available for adoption in the weeks to come.Right now, they are starting to get their vet check-ups, receiving needed vaccinations and/or having other medical procedures before they can be visited or adopted.When they have passed their medical exams and been adequately socialized, they will make their debut on the PAWS Facebook page and PAWS’ website, so please check those two sites for updates.

Below are very brief descriptions of some of the cats available for home visits this Saturday.

Dale – 2-year-old orange male, very affectionate, but shy at first.Pam (all black) and Flo (soft gray) – 10-year-old bonded pair of shy females.Freya – a 1-year-old who is friendly and playful, likely good with children, best as a solo cat.At the Kitty Cat Café are Biff – a 6-year-old endearing, shy male, who needs a home with a laid-back buddy cat, and Ragnell – a 1-year-old shy, beautiful calico.

Remember Freya? This little sweetheart is a true bundle of joy—she loves playtime and rocketing around the house chasing her wand toy, and, when tuckered, will drag it into another room to save for when the zoomies strike again. When not playing, Freya enjoys snuggles and a lap nap. Her favorite pastimes are watching birds through a window and perching high up (naps on top of a wardrobe or bookcase are ideal for her); however, this energetic adventurer would love a cat tree to call her own.

Freya has recently decided that Temptations treats are the best, both as a perfect pre-meal and afternoon snack. The limit of how many she would like does not exist and she will ask specifically for some if you walk by the bin where they are stored. Freya is curious and friendly, yet cautious with new people, but her caretaker believes she will adapt quickly to a new family.

Freya is special needs, as she is FeLV+, a virus that may affect a cat’s immune system, but that doesn't slow her down a bit! With good nutrition and regular veterinary care, FeLV+ cats often enjoy a high quality of life.
