Walpole Seeks Police Officer, Dispatcher Candidates

WALPOLE, MA — The Walpole Police Department is accepting candidates for police officer and public safety dispatcher positions.

The department’s next police entrance exam is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, according to a department announcement. Prospective applicants can find registration information and other details through GetBadged.

Walpole is not part of the state’s Civil Service system and uses an independent company to administer its entrance exam, according to the department’s hiring page. Candidates selected from the exam pool may advance to interviews, background investigations and other steps in the hiring process.

Police officer candidates must be at least 21 on the exam date. There is no maximum age or residency requirement to take the test, according to the department.

Applicants must have an associate degree or equivalent credits toward a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates may also qualify with a high school diploma or GED and veteran status as defined under Massachusetts law.

New officers must live within 15 miles of Walpole within one year of their appointment, according to the department.

Public safety dispatchers work in Walpole’s Emergency Communications Center, which handles emergency calls and dispatches both police and fire personnel. New dispatchers attend a six-week academy and receive training in emergency medical dispatch, CPR, automatic external defibrillator use and other areas.
