Overnight Ramp Closures Coming To I-495/I-90 Interchange
Drivers using the I-495/I-90 interchange should expect overnight ramp closures next week.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — Drivers using the I-495/I-90 interchange should expect overnight ramp closures next week as construction continues on the interchange improvement project.
MassDOT said the closures will affect ramps in Westborough and Hopkinton from Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31, with detours in place between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night.
The I-90 eastbound ramp to I-495 northbound, Exit 106, will close nightly from Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31. Drivers will be detoured onto I-495 southbound to Exit 54A at West Main Street in Hopkinton, where they can reverse direction back to I-495 northbound.

The I-495 northbound ramp to I-90 east and west, Exit 58, will also close overnight Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29. During that closure, drivers should continue on I-495 northbound to Exit 59B for Route 9 westbound, then reverse direction onto I-495 southbound to access I-90 east and west.
If weather delays the I-495 northbound ramp closure, MassDOT said the work will be pushed back to Thursday, July 30.

Signage, law enforcement details and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work areas. Drivers should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution, according to MassDOT.
All work is weather dependent and may be affected by emergencies.
What The Interchange Project Includes
The work is part of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project in Hopkinton and Westborough.
The project is meant to provide a safer and more efficient interchange, replace the existing interchange, eliminate the former toll booth area and weaving areas, improve ramp spacing and acceleration and deceleration lanes and add an auxiliary lane from I-495 northbound to Route 9, according to MassDOT.
New bridges are also being built on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 northbound over Flanders Road and on Fruit Street, according to MassDOT.
MassDOT says construction is ongoing and the project is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
