Westborough Police Mobile Command Vehicle Coming This Fall
A new mobile command vehicle designed to help coordinate emergency responses and major events is expected to arrive in town this fall.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — A new mobile command vehicle designed to help coordinate emergency responses and major events is expected to arrive in town this fall.
Residents approved funding for the Westborough Police Department’s Mobile Incident Response and Command Vehicle at the Annual Town Meeting in March. The custom-built vehicle is in production and is expected to be completed and delivered in October 2026, according to the town's quarterly newsletter.
The vehicle will provide police officers and other public safety personnel with a central command post during emergencies, missing-person searches, severe weather, school incidents and community events. It will also support situations requiring an extended response or coordination among multiple agencies.

Instead of managing operations from several police cruisers or temporary locations, command personnel will be able to communicate, review information, assign resources and coordinate responding agencies from one location.
The vehicle will feature integrated communications and dispatch systems, interoperable radio equipment, satellite internet service, large display monitors, workstations, a briefing area, emergency lighting and an elevated camera system capable of providing real-time views.

An onboard generator and independent communications equipment will allow the command post to operate during power outages or in areas without normal infrastructure.
Although based in Westborough, the vehicle will support coordination with neighboring police and fire departments, Westborough Public Schools, Massachusetts State Police and regional partners through the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. It may also be used for joint training exercises involving officers, school officials, firefighters and emergency management personnel.
Police personnel will complete equipment installation and training after the vehicle arrives. The department expects to display it at community events and public safety demonstrations after it enters service.
