Memorial Day Events In Wilmington Celebrate America’s 250th

A parade, ceremonies and more are on the docket to celebrate Memorial Day.

WILMINGTON, MA — With America celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, Memorial Day events in Wilmington could have a more patriotic bent than in previous years.

Memorial Day Weekend runs May 23-25, with the holiday itself falling on Monday, the 25th.

Memorial Day is traditionally a somber recognition of soldiers who died in the Revolutionary War and the American Civil War, fought to establish and maintain freedom and liberty for all, and in every war with U.S. involvement since.

A National Moment of Remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. local time, and all are encouraged to pause wherever they are for one minute of silence and join other Americans in honoring the men and women who died in U.S. military service.

Here's what's planned for Wilmington's Memorial Day weekend:

The decoration of parks, squares and monuments will be May 22 at 8:30 a.m. The event will start at Town Common.

Then on May 23, there will the decoration of Veterans' Graves at Wildwood Cemetery, beginning at 8 a.m.

On Memorial Day, May 25, the parade starts at 10 a.m. It will run from Main Street to Church Street to Middlesex Avenue to Wildwood Cemetery.

At 11 a.m., ceremonies will be held at Veterans' Lot and Soldiers Monument.
