With Woburn Council Vote, Historic Schoolhouse Inches Closer To New Life: Report

WOBURN — The Woburn City Council has taken a first step toward transforming the historic Wyman School into an arts-focused community center, unanimously referring a leasing request to the council's Infrastructure and Public Lands Committee.

Mayor Michael Concannon had formally asked councilors for permission to lease the long-vacant Central Square property to interested groups, the Daily Times Chronicle reported.

Concannon recently said the city was preparing to solicit proposals for the 3.5-acre property. Selecting a bid would take up to three months.

While backing the idea of a cultural hub, Concannon noted that the City Council would ultimately decide the future of the former Wyman Grammar School, some of which dates to 1832.
