New Evidence Expands Investigation Into Missing MI Woman In Bahamas: Report

Investigators say new forensic evidence from her husband's electronic devices led them to new areas that were not previously searched.

U.S. Coast Guard officials are preparing to ask the Bahamas to search new areas in connection with the disappearance of a Michigan woman after discovering new evidence, according to an ABC News report.

Lynette Hooker, of Lenawee County, has been missing since April 4, when her husband, Brian Hooker, told officials she fell overboard from their small motorboat while they were traveling to Elbow Cay in the Bahamas.

Brian Hooker was arrested and questioned by police on April 8. He was then released on April 13 without charges.

Investigators now say new forensic evidence from Brian's electronic devices led them into new areas that were not previously searched. They said what Hooker told investigators doesn't match the GPS data investigators pulled from the devices, according to the report.

Lynette's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, told multiple national news outlets that she doubted Brian's story and believed something may have happened to her mother.

She added that Brian has a history of being violent towards her mother, including threatening to "throw her overboard."

Brian blamed bad weather for the incident and said he lost sight of Lynette as she was swept away by the ocean current. He has since said that he will not stop looking for her and has heard stories that some people have survived for weeks after falling overboard in the Bahamas.

Brian has since left the Bahamas to care for his very ill mother, NBC News reported.

The couple has been married for more than 20 years and chronicled their adventures sailing around the Caribbean on their "Sailing Hookers" Facebook page.

They posted videos in 2023 of buying a sailboat they named Soul Mate in the coastal town of Rockport, Texas, and then embarking on a cruise through the Gulf of Mexico from the port town of Kemah, Texas.

Coast Guard officials took possession of the couple's boat earlier this month.
