Runaway Horse Strikes, Injures 4 People On Mackinac Island: Report

Officials said the horse became startled after its saddle came loose.

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI — A runaway horse struck and hurt four people on Mackinac Island on Monday, according to a report.

The incident happened at 11:45 a.m. Monday near Fort and Main streets, UpNorthLive reports.

Police said the horse was moving down Turkey Hill with a stable rider when its saddle came loose, startling the horse.

The rider was thrown from the horse as it continued down Fort Street and struck several pedestrians along the sidewalk on Main Street, according to the report.

Officials eventually secured the horse near the scene.

Police said a 20-year-old woman from southern Michigan and a 61-year-old Mackinac Island woman were treated for injuries and released.

A 79-year-old woman and a 76-year-old woman were taken off the island for treatment, according to the report.
