Trump To Visit Detroit Area As Early Voting Opens For MI Primary: Report

President Donald Trump is planning a rally in Oakland County next Monday, according to a Fox 2 Detroit report.

It wasn't exactly clear where the president will be speaking, but the visit comes just one week before Michigan's primary elections.

The visit also comes on the same day that the Gordie Howe International Bridge is expected to open.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was planned for Friday, but Canadian officials dropped out after President Donald Trump announced a 50 percent tariff on most Canadian goods.

Early in-person voting begins Saturday ahead of the Aug. 4 primary when Michiganders will determine candidates for November.

Both parties see Michigan's primary races as crucial.

Republican Mike Rogers is unopposed in Michigan's Senate primary, while the Republican primary race for governor has intensified between U.S. Rep. John James and businessman Perry Johnson.

Trump has endorsed James in the race.

On the Democratic side, U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens and progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed are battling for the party's Senate nomination. The winner will face Trump-backed Rogers, who narrowly lost in 2024 to now-Sen. Elissa Slotkin.

For the Democrats governor's primary, polls show Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson with a sizable lead over Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson.

Trump won Michigan in 2024 after losing the state in 2020. He also carried Michigan in 2016.
