Beloved Detroit Bagel Shop Opening New Metro Location

BIRMINGHAM, MI — Bev's Bagels is opening a new spot in Oakland County next month.

James Beard Award-nominated chef and owner Max Sussman said the new shop will open at 283 Hamilton Row, near the Woodward and Maple corridor in Birmingham in September.

The 1,400-square-foot storefront was previously occupied by Marrow on the Go.

"I’ve always loved hanging out and eating in Birmingham," Sussman, a Huntington Woods native said. "When I was growing up, I’d go there with my grandparents for lunch all the time. It’s really exciting to me to be able to bring Bev’s to downtown Birmingham and introduce what we do to a whole new audience."

Bev's Bagels is well known for its organic sourdough bagels and bagel sandwiches. Some ingredients include wild smoked salmon and ethically raised meat.

Additionally, the new Birmingham spot will offer veggie-forward options with lighter cream cheese, house salads, gluten-free options and pastries, such as babkas and cinnamon rolls. There will also be monthly exclusives to the Birmingham location.

"A lot of places try to solve speed by shrinking the menu or pre-making their food, but if we did that, we wouldn't be Bev's anymore," Sussman said. "We're getting faster without sacrificing a single ounce of quality. Our goal has been and always will be to offer excellent sourdough bagels to everyone in a fun, creative way."

The shop, which is named after Sussman’s grandmother, started as a pop-up in Ann Arbor before finding a home along Grand River Avenue in Detroit's Core City neighborhood last year.

Sussman is also planning to open an Ann Arbor spot in the future.

The Birmingham spot will be open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.
