Tornadoes, Damaging Winds Possible Across Detroit Area Wednesday

Severe storms could bring isolated tornadoes and damaging winds to the Detroit area Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect the storms to hit the region sometime between 2 and 10 p.m. when highs climb into the 80s.

The storms will be capable of heavy downpours, large hail, winds up to 60 miles per hour and isolated tornadoes, according to NWS.

Areas south of Interstate 96 in the Detroit area face the greatest chance for severe weather, according to NWS.

Most of southeastern Michigan was placed under a slight risk (level 2/5) for severe weather Wednesday.

The showers and storms will clear out of the region by Wednesday night, giving way to a clear and sunny Thursday with highs in the low 80s, according to NWS.

Conditions in the region will also be favorable to see the lunar eclipse late Thursday night.

Forecasters expect the sunny conditions to hang around Friday and into the weekend with highs in the 80s, according to NWS.
