Oakland County Man Arrested After Threatening To Burn Down Catholic Church: Police
Witnesses told police that the man had expressed frustration with the church.
MONROE, MI — An Oak Park man was arrested Tuesday after threatening to burn down a Catholic church on Tuesday, according to police.
The incident happened at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday inside the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, located at 511 S. Monroe Street in Monroe, according to police.
Police said the 29-year-old man walked into the church and threatened to burn it down.

Witnesses told police that the man had expressed frustration with the Catholic church.
When officers arrived, the man acknowledged making remarks about burning the church, according to police.

Officers arrested him without incident and placed him in the county jail. Police are seeking charges of intimidation/stalking with threats to burn and disorderly conduct.
There were no injuries in the incident.
"The Monroe Public Safety Department takes threats directed toward places of worship and other community facilities seriously," police said in a statement. "Threats involving the safety of those who live, work, and worship in our community will receive an appropriate law enforcement response."
