Metro Detroit Lawyer Charged With Child Porn: Prosecutor
The man faces more than two dozen charges in connection with child porn and was given a $1 million bond, prosecutors said.
GROSSE POINTE PARK, MI — A metro Detroit lawyer is facing more than two dozen charges in connection with child porn, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Nelson Otto Ropke, 41, of Grosse Pointe Park, was charged with the following:
- Two counts of aggravated child sexual abusive activity
- Four counts of aggravated distribution of child sexual abusive activity
- Four counts of aggravated possession of child sexual abusive activity
- Two counts of capturing/distributing an image of unclothed person
- One count of possession of child sexually abusive matter
- Thirteen counts of using a computer to commit a crime
He was placed in jail with a $1 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for May 5.

Ropke was also forced to surrender his passport and camera-equipped devices. He is not allowed to access any devices with internet and cannot contact anyone under the age of 18.
Ropke was arrested after investigators found sexually abusive photos and videos of children at his home in the 800 block of Harcourt Road in Grosse Pointe Park, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said more details on the case will be released during the preliminary examination.
"There are many times in this job where we encounter alleged facts where you wonder how some people can sink to certain levels of depravity. This is one of those cases. There is really nothing left to say here," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
