NHS Drama Club's Bringing Down The House -- opening night!

The Northville High School Drama Club will soon stage a hilariously unusual production that features a musical – without songs. “Bringing Down the House” is the quintessential ‘show within a show’ that takes the audience behind the curtain to experience the frivolity and foibles of life in the theater. An all-ages production, there are three opportunities to enjoy it: 7:00 PM, September 25 & 26, plus a 2:00 PM matinee on the 26th. "Bringing Down the House" by Todd Wallinger, is about a team of young musical hopefuls who book a creaky old theater to stage their show in six weeks for big Broadway investors—only to discover the building is scheduled for demolition the next day. With child actors, confused protestors, and a bumbling wrecking crew in the mix, it’s a race to save their dreams – in just two hours. This show takes the saying “the show must go on” to a whole new level! A laugh-out-loud farce about resilience and the chaos of creation that is sure to bring down the house with laughter! 

Originally commissioned by Belmont Day School in Massachusetts, Wallinger describes the show as "a monster, the biggest, most complex play I've ever written." An award-winning playwright with over 3,000 productions in 24 countries, Wallinger describes some of "Bringing Down the House” characters, including the upbeat composer who sees the world through rose-colored glasses. The high-strung director, who's more concerned about his Twizzlers and caramel macchiato than the suddenly truncated rehearsal schedule, and a whole slew of actors, from the coddled Hollywood star to the pretentious British veterans to the self-absorbed historical preservationist, to the ever-hopeful chorus members.
