Canton No Kings Event Draws an Estimated 2,300 Participants

On Saturday, March 28, as many as 2,300 people gathered along Canton Center Road north and south of the Canton Township Administrative Building as part of the nationwide No Kings day of action, demonstrating widespread public commitment to democratic accountability and the rule of law.

The Canton event hosted by Belleville Area Friends Indivisible opened with remarks from several of the area’s elected officials, including Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham Hudak, Belleville Mayor Kenneth Voigt, State Representative Matt Koleszar who represents Plymouth, Northville and part of Livonia, and State Representative Ranjeev Puri who represents Canton.

Nearly three hours of peaceful, family-friendly demonstration by community members of all ages and backgrounds followed. Many passing motorists offered their support by honking and waving.

BAFI organizers offer special thanks to the Canton Township Police Department for their partnership in making the event safe for all.

This is the second time BAFI has hosted a rally at the location; the first was the Hands Off event in April 2025; the group also held a No Kings rally in Belleville in June 2025 and has hosted bridge demonstrations over I-94.

“It was a marvelous day, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation in making it our biggest and best yet,” said co-organizer Linda Priest. “We invite everyone to join our April 11 virtual ‘What’s Next’ meeting, and our weekly Saturday meetings online as well as our once-monthly hybrid meeting with an in-person option at the Belleville Public Library.”
