Livonia Man Charged After Sexually Assaulting 11-Year-Old Girl: Sheriff

LIVONIA, MI — A 33-year-old Livonia man is facing charges after sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl last month, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Jeremiah Michael Bishop was charged with four counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was placed in jail with an $850,000 bond and a GPS tether provision.

His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 7.

If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 60 years in prison.

Investigators began looking into the matter on June 18 when the girl's grandfather told them he suspected his daughter's boyfriend was sexually abusing his granddaughter.

Investigators also talked to the girl's mother, who told them her daughter had told her about the sexual abuse. The mother also showed them text messages sent by Bishop admitting to the abuse.

Police then spoke with the 11-year-old girl at a Care House, which is a nonprofit that provides support services to the victims of child abuse and neglect, officials said.

Officials said the girl disclosed multiple incidents of abuse.

Officers arrested Bishop without incident at his mother's house last Thursday, officials said.

"Nothing is more important than protecting our children. The allegations that this 31-year-old man sexually assaulted an 11-year-old child are horrific. Anyone who preys on a child must be held fully accountable. We will do everything in our power to protect children and pursue justice for victims," Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said.
