M-14/I-96 Project In Wayne County Moves Into Next Phase: Here's What You Need To Know
A massive Michigan 14/Interstate 96 project in Wayne County moved into its next phase Monday.
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — A massive Michigan 14/Interstate 96 project in Wayne County moved into its next phase Monday.
Crews are now rebuilding the westbound side of the freeway from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road, along with numerous interchange ramps in Livonia and Plymouth Township.
During construction, traffic will be shifted onto the newly built eastbound side of the freeway with two lanes open in each direction. Ramp work includes:

- The Newburgh Road entrance ramp to westbound Interstate 96.
- The westbound Interstate 96 ramps to northbound and southbound Interstate 275.
- The northbound and southbound Interstate 275 ramps to westbound Michigan 14.
- The westbound Michiagn 14 exit and entrance ramps at Sheldon Road (Exit 20).
Crews are also rebuilding the Interstate 275 Metro Trail from south of Five Mile Road to Hines Drive.

Feb. 23 through March 9
- Westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will have one lane closed from Interstate 275 to Sheldon Road for shoulder clearing.
March 9 through March 16
- Eastbound and westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will have at least one lane open between Sheldon Road and Newburgh Road, along with intermittent Interstate 275 ramp closures, for barrier wall installation.
March 16 - mid-July
- Eastbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will have two lanes open from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road.
- Westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will have up to two lanes open from Newburgh Road to Sheldon Road.
- The Newburgh Road entrance ramp to westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will be closed.
March 16 - late 2026
- The northbound Interstate 275 ramp to westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will be closed.
- Westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 Exit 20 to Sheldon Road will be closed. (Southbound Interstate 275 traffic merging onto westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will still have access to Sheldon Road Exit 20 until the southbound Interstate 275 ramp to westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 is closed in June).
Mid-April - July
- The westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 ramp to southbound Interstate 275 will be closed.
June - late 2026
- The southbound Interstate 275 ramp to westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will be closed.
July - late fall
- Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will have two lanes open in each direction between Sheldon Road and Interstate 275.
- Michigan 14/Interstate 96 will have all lanes open in each direction between Interstate 275 and Newburgh Road.
- The Interstate 275 Metro Trail will be closed from south of Five Mile Road to Hines Drive.
