Man Threatens Muslim Men At Mall In Oakland County: Prosecutors

TROY, MI — A man is in trouble after making vulgar remarks and threatening two other men at a mall in Oakland County, according to prosecutors.

Subi Saad, a 53, of Northville, was charged with a hate crime, aggravated indecent exposure and disturbing the peace.

If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison for each the hate crime and the aggravated indecent exposure. He faces an additional 90 days in jail for disturbing the peace.

He can also get hit with more than $7,000 in fines.

The incident happened Monday inside a store at the Somerset Collection in Troy, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Saad approached two men inside the store and began making vulgar remarks about Islam. He also threatened the men and said he had a gun in his car, according to prosecutors.

Officers escorted Saad from the mall, which he is now banned from entering, according to prosecutors.

Once outside the mall, Saad created a disturbance and loudly shouted vulgarities at police officers in the parking lot, according to prosecutors.

Later in the day, while in jail, Saad exposed himself to corrections officers, according to prosecutors.

"No one should be harassed or threatened because of their religion," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "This defendant allegedly targeted two patrons because they were Muslim and subjected numerous workers and shoppers to profane and sexual rantings. This behavior is never acceptable."
