West Bloomfield Twp. Trustee Hid Cameras In Women's Bedrooms, Bathrooms: Prosecutor

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A West Bloomfield Township official is facing charges after he placed hidden cameras in two women's bedrooms and bathrooms, according to prosecutors.

Jibran Manna, 65, was charged with two counts of capturing images of an unclothed person and five counts of installing a device for eavesdropping.

Capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person is punishable by up to five years in prison. Eavesdropping by installing or using a device is punishable by up to two years.

Officials began investigating last Sunday after two women found surveillance cameras hidden in smoke detectors in their bedrooms.

Investigators then searched Manna's home and office, and discovered additional cameras. They also found nude surveillance videos from the women’s bedrooms and bathrooms on Manna’s cellphone.

Investigators seized multiple electronic devices and other evidence and turned them over to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Computer Crimes Unit for examination.

"This was an appalling invasion of privacy," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "The defendant’s alleged actions exploited his victims in spaces where they expected to feel safest and most private."
