Payroll Worker Gets Prison For Stealing $1.2M From MN Truck Company

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A 49-year-old woman who ran payroll for a Minnesota company that sells trucks, parts, and services was sentenced Tuesday to 21 months in federal prison for embezzling more than $1.2 million from her employer over nearly eight years, federal prosecutors said.

Brigit Marshall was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz on one count of wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota. She pleaded guilty on May 19.

Marshall began working at the company, which is headquartered in Minnesota, in 2017. Her job included overseeing human resources and handling the company's payroll, according to court documents. The company was not publicly identified.

That same year, prosecutors said, Marshall began creating excess wage garnishments in the payroll system.

She then directed those fabricated garnishments by electronic bank transfer to herself or to accounts she controlled. The scheme continued until May 2025.

To cover her tracks, Marshall created separate general ledgers and buried the transfers within legitimate payments in unrelated areas of the company's books, court documents show.

Prosecutors said Marshall spent the stolen money on personal expenses and to fund a gambling addiction.

"White-collar crime is not victimless. These crimes undermine companies and impact jobs that people rely on to take care of their families," U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said in a statement. "My office is committed to protecting both public and private institutions from being defrauded."
