Farmington Police Release Description Of Vehicle In Fatal Hit-And-Run

FARMINGTON, MN — The Farmington Police Department has revised its description of the vehicle sought in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 13-year-old Apple Valley boy on the night of Tuesday, July 14.

Police initially said they were looking for a small black SUV.

Based on evidence collected since then, investigators now believe the suspect vehicle is a silver or gray 2008 to 2011 Ford Focus.

The vehicle is expected to have front-end and passenger-side damage and will be missing its passenger-side exterior mirror, which was recovered at the scene.

At approximately 9:44 p.m. on July 14, two juvenile boys were crossing Minnesota Highway 50 at Dushane Parkway when one of the boys, who was riding a bicycle, was struck by a westbound vehicle and killed.

The driver fled the scene without stopping. Family and friends have identified the victim as Sasha Balandin, and a GoFundMe campaign has been organized to help cover funeral costs for his family.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, has seen a silver or gray 2008 to 2011 Ford Focus with recent front-end or passenger-side damage, or has any information that may help investigators is asked to contact the Farmington Police Department at (651) 280-6700.
