"This was a scary time for everyone involved, and there are many questions we cannot answer at this time," Eden Prairie Schools said in a Facebook post.

The district thanked staff, law enforcement and attendees for their quick response and said it would not speculate about who was involved or what led to the shooting until police confirm those details.

Gov. Tim Walz said late Friday that state officials are assisting local authorities in finding those responsible.

"No homecoming, in any community, should be disrupted by gun violence," Walz wrote on X. "Minnesotans are keeping students and families in our thoughts tonight."

The shooting prompted the district to evacuate the game. "We're evacuating homecoming. All visitors being directed Round Lake Park for reunification," the district said in its first message to families.

The district later told people to exit through the baseball diamonds or, if they needed to be picked up, to head to Round Lake Park. The district said it was working with Eden Prairie police, the Eden Prairie Fire Department and Hennepin County EMS to keep the area secure and support reunification.

At 9:52 p.m., the district said police had confirmed there was no active threat in the area.

People inside the high school were placed on a hold, limiting movement through the building, until 9:55 p.m., when they were directed to leave through the south doors and head to Round Lake Park. Players, marching band members and families were directed to a pavilion at the park for reunification.
