Cafe Near Minnehaha Falls Closes

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Arya Café, a coffee shop near Minnehaha Falls known for its Ethiopian coffee and welcoming community atmosphere, closed for good on Aug. 31.

In an Instagram post, the cafe's ownership said they made the difficult decision to close, thanking the team and every resident, neighbor and friend who stopped in, shared a coffee and supported the cafe. Ownership said it has meant a lot to see the space become a warm and welcoming part of the community.

Arya opened in August 2025 at the corner of 46th Street and Minnehaha Avenue, less than half a mile from Minnehaha Falls.

It was co-founded by CEO Obsa Mohamed and Munir Ahmed. Mohamed told KARE 11 the cafe was more than a coffee shop, describing it as a blend of experiences, cultures and backgrounds.

The cafe sourced its coffee beans from Ethiopian farms through a partnership with UP Coffee Roasters in northeast Minneapolis and worked with local artists, including Oromo artist Lokho Kotile, whose work decorated the space.

While this chapter is closing, ownership said in its post that it remains hopeful for what's next for the space and plans to share more in the future.
