This Tool Shows How Far Your Income Really Goes In Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minnesota Star Tribune has published an interactive tool that lets readers plug in their own household income and expenses to see how their budget stacks up against the state's rising cost of living.

The tool accompanies a broader survey of more than 200 Minnesotans who described housing, health care and transportation costs eating into paychecks even as inflation and unemployment stay relatively low nationally.

The survey found a Pew Research Center estimate places a middle-income household in Minnesota at roughly $58,000 to $174,000 a year, but many respondents said that range does not reflect what it actually costs to live a middle class life today.
