Peggy Flanagan Accuses Pro-Angie Craig PAC Of Using AI Deepfake In TV Ad

ST. PAUL, MN — Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan accused a super PAC supporting U.S. Rep. Angie Craig of using an AI-generated version of her in a television ad.

"Today, you might see a TV ad starring something that kind of looks like me," Flanagan wrote on Wednesday.

"My opponent's super PAC is using an AI deepfake of me to mislead voters. They can't win with the truth - so they're resorting to lies."

KARE 11 reported that the ad was not from Craig's campaign, but from North Star Dawn PAC, a group supporting Craig. The ad shows an AI version of Flanagan with a pile of cash, according to the station.

Craig's campaign told the station that she does not support the use of AI in election ads.

Craig and Flanagan are both Democrats running for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.

Minnesota law restricts certain election-related "deepfakes" when they are shared without the consent of the person depicted, intended to injure a candidate or influence an election, and distributed during certain election-related time periods.
