Winners And Losers From Minnesota's 2026 Primary Election

ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota voters narrowed crowded fields for governor and U.S. Senate on Tuesday, setting up the November matchups in two of the state's marquee races.

In the Democratic governor primary, the Associated Press projects that Sen. Amy Klobuchar will win the DFL nomination over six other candidates.

On the Republican side, House Speaker Lisa Demuth is projected by the AP to win the GOP nomination for governor, topping former MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and Army veteran Kendall Qualls.

Lindell had campaigned with President Donald Trump's endorsement, while Qualls carried the state Republican Party's convention endorsement. Qualls conceded the race Tuesday night and congratulated Demuth.

The Democratic Senate primary to replace retiring Sen. Tina Smith came down to a contest between Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and U.S. Rep. Angie Craig.

Flanagan is projected to win by the AP.

On the Republican side of the Senate race, former sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya is projected to win her party's nomination over former NBA player Royce White and former Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze, according to the AP.

Both Senate nominees advance to a November race for the seat Smith is vacating after choosing not to seek reelection.

Matt Little, the DFL-endorsed former Lakeville mayor and state senator, is projected to win the three-way Democratic primary for Angie Craig's open 2nd District seat, according to the AP.

He'll face GOP state Sen. Eric Pratt, who ran unopposed, in November.
