Councilwoman Nancy Spewak Prepares for Mayoral Race

Councilwoman Nancy Spewak has filed for the mayor’s seat in the upcoming April 2 election and currently remains unopposed as Mayor Anthony Bommarito announced on Monday that he would seek reelection.

Spewak, a life-long Ladue resident, has served in the council for almost eight years, representing Ward 3.

“I think my biggest strength is my experience and proven collaborative leadership style,” Spewak said. “I am known as someone who gets things done.”

Spewak said she admired the job done by Mayor Bommarito and thanked him for his service to the community.

“I think he had a tremendous vision for his city,” Spewak said.

Nine years ago, Spewak opened her own business, Property Enhancements, an interior design and home-staging firm, in Ladue. As a small business owner, Spewak said she understands how to multitask and manage budgets.

“I actually consider owning a small business great training for multi tasking, which is something you have to do as mayor,” Spewak said. “You have many projects going on at the same time and I think that it’s really important to be able to stay on top of things.”

Spewak said she doesn’t believe the city is facing any big problems, but rather big projects.

“I will strive to remain fiscally responsible and maintain the highest quality of services for our residents at the same time,” Spewak said. “Some of our bigger projects are building two firehouses, paying for them out of the capital improvement fund with no increase in taxes. We also need to stay on track to keep our community a premier community, encouraging appropriate growth in our business district.”

One of her goals, she said, is to update the city’s website and encourage a more united Ladue.

“One of my goals will be to foster a sense of community in town,” Spewak said. “I would like very much to update our website and work out with businesses and citizens and community leaders to promote a sense of warmth and welcomeness in Ladue.”
