Woman Fatally Shot In Northfield By Police After They Responded To An Assault Call

The incident on Vine Street ended with one woman dead at the scene on Monday morning. NHSP Major Crime and the NH AG are investigating.

NORTHFIELD, NH — Northfield police responded to a reported domestic incident on Vine Street overnight, and a woman was fatally shot by police during the incident.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said they are investigating the shooting in conjunction with the NH State Police Major Crime Unit. The incident occurred at a private residence when a Northfield officer fired their weapon, fatally injuring the woman. Medical aid was provided at the scene, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene just after 1 a.m.

On Monday morning, Vine Street was blocked off at the corner of Oak Street with crime-scene tape and cruisers.

Investigators from the Major Crime Unit and a medical examiner were working at the scene. The body of the woman was removed by a local funeral home and escorted to Concord, where the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will do an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

The name of the deceased will be released following notification of next of kin, according to NH AG Spokesperson Michael Garrity. There is no known threat to the public at this time, and more information will be released as it becomes available, according to Garrity.
