ATV Rollover on Smitty’s Trail In Berlin Sends Brentwood Woman to Hospital

BERLIN, N.H. — A 61-year-old Brentwood woman was hospitalized Saturday morning following an ATV crash along Smitty’s Trail in Berlin, state authorities reported.

First responders—including the Berlin Police Department, Berlin Fire Department, and a Conservation Officer from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department—were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:10 a.m. on September 26, 2026.

According to officials, Karen Salvatore was navigating a downhill section of the trail when she lost control of her off-road vehicle. The ATV veered off the pathway and rolled over, inflicting serious injuries on the operator.

Emergency personnel with the Berlin Fire Department rendered medical assistance on site before transporting Salvatore to Androscoggin Valley Hospital. Her injuries were determined to be serious but non-life-threatening.

Investigating officers noted that Salvatore is an experienced rider and was wearing appropriate safety gear during the incident.

In light of the rollover, New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers issued a reminder to off-road enthusiasts to exercise heightened caution when navigating technical terrain and to always operate vehicles within their skill limits.
