Woman Dies At Hospital After Condo Fire In Exeter

The victim was pulled from the home, and life-saving measures were attempted. She was ultimately transported to a Boston-area hospital.

EXETER, NH — New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Exeter Fire Chief Justin Pizon, and Exeter Police Chief Timothy McCain announce that one person is deceased after a fire at a condominium in Exeter.

Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Exeter Fire Department responded to 3 Stonewall Way after a 911 caller reported a smoke alarm was going off inside the home and the smell of smoke. When firefighters arrived, they found significant smoke coming from the third floor and an adult female with serious burn injuries. The victim was pulled from the home, and life-saving measures were attempted. She was ultimately transported to a Boston-area hospital, where she died Wednesday afternoon.

The identity of the victim, as well as her cause and manner of death, are being withheld pending an autopsy by the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Investigators with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire, which was knocked down in about 20 minutes. All aspects of the fire remain under investigation. The fire is not currently considered suspicious.

Additional firefighters from Newfields, Newmarket, Durham, Epping, East Kingston, Brentwood, Hampton, and North Hampton assisted at the scene. Station coverage was provided by Hampton Falls, Kensington, and Amesbury. No first responders were injured.
