Man From Watertown, Mass., Cited For Reckless Driving, Accused Of Crashing Into NH State Trooper Cruiser

LONDONDERRY, NH — A man from Massachusetts was cited on Friday night after being accused of reckless driving and crashing into a New Hampshire State Police cruiser on Interstate 93 in Londonderry.

Around 9 p.m., a state trooper was at the scene of a crash when the driver of a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the trooper’s cruiser. According to an investigation, Marcelo Candido de Oliveira Filho, 22, of Watertown, MA, was accused of losing control of the vehicle while driving.

The Jetta sustained significant damage while the cruiser suffered functional damage, according to a report. Neither Filho nor the trooper was injured. Filho was given a summons for reckless driving. He is due in Derry District Court on April 3.

New Hampshire State Police urged drivers to slow down and move over if they see flashing lights ahead.

“Whether it's a law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT, tow truck operator, highway worker, or someone whose car has broken down,” a report stated, “their safety depends on others’ close attention and prompt action.”
