Southern New Hampshire Habitat Home Repair Program Backed By $10K Merrimack County Bank Pledge

CONCORD, NH — A $10,000 pledge from Merrimack County Savings Bank will support Habitat for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester’s Home Repair Program, which helps low-income homeowners in Southern New Hampshire address critical repair needs.

The bank announced the pledge Monday, saying the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority, or CDFA, made the funding possible. The program provides critical repairs for low-income homeowners, including seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

The Home Repair Program focuses on identifying and resolving health, life, and safety code issues. According to the announcement, Habitat for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester works with families to create practical solutions that help homeowners remain in their homes.

“By supporting Habitat for Humanity, we’re directly helping our vulnerable populations live safely and comfortably in their homes,” Linda Lorden, president of The Merrimack, said. “Not only are we helping our neighbors in need, but we’re also helping build stronger, more vibrant communities.”

Habitat for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester has provided safe, decent, and affordable housing in the Southern New Hampshire area since 1994, according to the announcement. The nonprofit said its work includes affordable homeownership opportunities and critical home repairs to strengthen families and communities.

“This approach allows families to avoid the significant financial burden, logistical challenges, and emotional toll of having to move,” Christa Tsechrintzis, executive director at Habitat for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester, said. “The continued success of this campaign wouldn’t be possible without support from The Merrimack and other local businesses.”

Businesses that contribute to qualifying economic or community development projects can receive a New Hampshire state tax credit worth 75 percent of their contribution, according to the announcement. Businesses can apply the credit against state business tax payments and use it over five years to reduce business profits, business enterprise, or insurance premium tax liability.

CDFA reviews project applications each year and awards tax credits to projects it determines are feasible and likely to have the biggest impact on economic development in the state.
