Iconic Doughnut Chain Plans NJ Expansion In 33-Shop Deal

The chain, famous for its sugary, melt-in-your-mouth glazed doughnuts, said it plans to open 33 shops across the New York City metro area.

Iconic doughnut purveyor Krispy Kreme plans to open several new shops in New Jersey as part of a five-year expansion across the New York metro area.

The chain, famous for its sugary, melt-in-your-mouth glazed doughnuts, said it plans to open 33 shops across the New York City metro area, including Long Island and New Jersey.

The expansion is the result of a new development agreement with Original Entrepreneurs, a longtime Krispy Kreme franchisee that operates 12 existing doughnut shops.

"This development agreement reflects our focus on capital-light franchise growth and enables us to expand with an operator that has deep expertise building and operating Krispy Kreme shops in a competitive market," Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth said.

The company did not say how many of the 33 shops will open in New Jersey or identify potential locations.

Currently, Krispy Kreme has five New Jersey locations in Springfield, East Rutherford, Paramus and Lakewood.

Original Entrepreneurs has not yet provided a schedule for individual openings.
