New $900 Tax Rebate Proposed For These NJ Residents

Dog and cat owners may get a boost to their wallets in the future thanks to a new bill.
The proposal would award up to $300 per year for everyday pet costs that are covered and up to $600 per year for veterinary bills in the form of a gross income tax credit, according to Assembly Bill No. 4995.
Taxpayers must submit documentation showing ownership of the pet, and receipts for costs during the taxable year.

The purchases that would be covered include, but are not limited to, food, crates, leashes, litter boxes, litter, harnesses, collars, grooming supplies, and toys.
Veterinary bills that would be eligible for coverage include, but are not limited to, annual exams, medications, emergency care, and diagnostic testing.

The bill was introduced by Assemblyman Alex Sauickie on May 7.
If approved, the act would go into effect immediately and apply to taxable years beginning on or after January 1 of the next year after the enactment.
