Coffee Recall In NJ Over Botulism Risk

NEW JERSEY— Brooklyn Roasting Company is pulling its Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate from the market after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned the product could pose a possible botulism risk.

Brooklyn Roasting Company is recalling its Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate with best-by dates ranging from June 3 through Sept. 3, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The affected products were distributed between April 1 and June 20 in New Jersey and New York.

Federal officials said the recall stems from a potential risk associated with ambient storage, which can create conditions that allow Clostridium botulinum to grow and produce a dangerous toxin.

No illnesses were listed in the FDA recall notice.

The recalled cold brew concentrate was distributed throughout New Jersey and New York between April 1 and June 20. Brooklyn Roasting Company products are sold through the company's cafés, specialty coffee shops, independent markets, gourmet grocery stores and online, although the company has not released a list of retailers that received the recalled product.
