Man Faces Drug Charges After Stafford Traffic Stop: Police

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A Friday night motor vehicle stop in Stafford Township led to drug charges against a Newark man, according to the Stafford Township Police Department.

Police reported that Patrolman Otte and Patrolman O’Rourke conducted the stop at about 10:17 p.m. Aug. 7 in the area of Route 72 and Stafford Square. The driver was identified as 38-year-old Brandon Felix of Newark.

During the stop, police developed suspicion that Felix was in possession of a controlled dangerous substance inside the vehicle, according to the department. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in officers locating a digital scale and quantities of suspected crack cocaine and suspected heroin.

Felix was then placed under arrest and transported to Stafford Township Police Headquarters for processing, police reported.

As a result of the investigation, Felix was charged with second-degree possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. He also was charged with third-degree possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Additional charges include third-degree possession of crack cocaine and third-degree possession of heroin, according to police. Felix also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.

After processing at police headquarters, Felix was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing in Ocean County Superior Court, according to the department.
