For many across New Jersey, consistent access to preventative health care remains a challenge. Too many individuals don't have a primary care doctor, causing them to miss out on regular screenings that can be lifesaving. What if that care could come directly to you?
Hackensack Meridian Health, New Jersey’s largest health care network, is bridging that gap with a new community initiative: Your Health On The Move. Two state-of-the-art mobile screening centers are now traveling from Bergen to Ocean counties, providing free preventative health screenings and wellness services, with a special focus on reaching underserved populations.
“Preventative services like the ones we are offering through our Your Health On The Move wellness vans are key to managing chronic conditions and improving health outcomes,” said Patrick Young, Hackensack Meridian Health president of Population Health. The mobile wellness offices will be stationed at accessible locations like supermarkets, community centers, and food pantries. No appointments are necessary for the services, which include:
- Blood pressure screenings
- Glucose testing
- Visual acuity screening
- Memory and cognitive screening
- Overall health and cardiovascular assessment
- Individualized education and health resources
This crucial program was made possible by the generous legacy of Janice Mitchell-Vassar, a passionate advocate for accessible health care who left significant funding to support community health initiatives. "Having her name on the new community outreach vans is a truly special tribute that will continue her important work,” says Mrs. Vassar's attorney, Janice Miller, Esq.
