Basking Ridge Girls Lacrosse Advances To Somerset County Final With 14-11 Win

On May 14, Ridge had a 14-11 semifinal victory over Montgomery.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Ridge High School’s girls lacrosse team is headed to the Somerset County Tournament Final after a 14-11 semifinal win over Montgomery at Montgomery High School on Thursday, May 14.

With the victory, the Red Devils improved to 12-3 on the season and earned a spot in Saturday’s championship game.

The semifinal opened with a 3-3 first quarter before Ridge pulled ahead in the second.

The Red Devils outscored Montgomery 5-2 in that frame, then added a 4-3 edge in the third quarter to build their lead. Montgomery made a push in the fourth, but Ridge held on to secure the win.

Ridge outshot Montgomery 23-20 on goal over four quarters, according to the game summary.

Montgomery’s Kennedy Dexter led all scorers with five goals. Carson Benedict and Emma Scrudato each added two goals for the Cougars, who moved to 12-3.

Head Coach Olivia Harpel pointed to a team-wide effort after the win.

"There are too many to name today," Harpel said.

She also highlighted senior co-captain Andrea Dulyn’s role in setting the tone for the group.

"Andrea Dulyn reminds us constantly that it’s a team effort and it took everyone to make today happen," said Harpel.

Harpel also credited Montgomery’s play in the semifinal.

"Kennedy Dexter had a day! Montgomery is full of talent, and they are having a tremendous season. They are consistently a fun team to play against and have a ton of sportsmanship," Harpel said.

The coach said the county tournament setting brought added energy for Ridge.

"The County Tournament is a different energy for any team. It’s exciting to be a part of it and I am proud of my players for supporting each other and grateful to Ridge HS Admin, ATs, and parents for their support on our way here and through a game like this," Harpel said.

Looking ahead, Harpel said the semifinal offered lessons for the team as it prepares for the final.

"Today taught us a lot, we are excited to practice again and take a look at what is next. Congratulations to Bridgewater as well on a hard fought semifinal game, and to Pingry on advancing to the final!" said Harpel.

Ridge will face Pingry in the Somerset County Tournament Final at Somerville High School in Somerville, on Saturday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m.
