"I usually don't make my remarks personal when I'm here at the township committee, but I've had the opportunity to see Sergeant Little work up close and personal a couple of years ago," McNally said.

He said Little responded after an emergency call made on behalf of his ailing mother and described the sergeant as "professional, caring, understanding, and patient" while helping get her into an ambulance and to the hospital.

Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy also offered congratulations during the recognition.

"I want to commend Sergeant Kevin Little as well on his retirement and 29 years of service to Bernard's Township," McCarthy said. "We are very grateful for his commitment to the safety and security of our community, and we wish him happiness and time with his family and friends in this next chapter of his life."

A retirement ceremony and walkout were held on Thursday.
