Ridge Girls Lacrosse Tops Voorhees 14-4 At Home

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Ridge High School's girls lacrosse team earned a 14-4 home win over the Voorhees Vikings on Wednesday, using a balanced attack and steady play on draws and in goal.

The victory came on Ridge's home field, where the team controlled much of the action at the attacking end.

Head coach Olivia Harpel said a pre-game focus on offensive ownership showed up in the way Ridge played throughout the contest. The team managed time and space well and worked to stay connected as a unit during possessions.

"Our offense took ownership well during today's game, which is something we had talked about as a team," Harpel said. "I was proud that they managed their time and space as a unit and made sure to be on the same page as much as possible."

Ridge also got an important lift from its draw control group after identifying areas to clean up coming out of the first quarter. Lexi Hansen anchored that effort, helping Ridge gain possession and keep pressure on Voorhees.

"Our draw control group, led by Lexi Hansen, has remained consistent and worked hard to figure out the gaps we saw in the first quarter," Harpel said. "Both Romey Gussin and Rylan Broadhurst made strong saves in goal for us."

In the cage, Romey Gussin and Rylan Broadhurst combined to hold Voorhees to four goals. Their work helped limit several strong scoring chances as Ridge maintained control for long stretches.

Voorhees still produced key moments during the game, with notable efforts from Weiland, DiRe, and Lenzinger. Harpel said those players created challenges for Ridge and gave the team useful game experience.

"Voorhees has a lot of talent in Weiland, DiRE, and Lenzinger, all three of whom made big plays at different times," Harpel said. "We learned a lot about consistency and our ability to respond to big moments regardless of the score, which will help us in future games."

Ridge is scheduled to return home Friday, May 1, to host Scotch Plains-Fanwood at 5 p.m.
